Scotts Valley Performing Arts is Bringing Broadway to Town

SVPA's sixth annual fundraiser will be an evening full of song and dance.

Scotts Valley Performing Arts is gearing up for its sixth annual Broadway Cabaret fundraiser. The show, a one-night variety show, promises to be a night of performances not to be missed.

The Broadway Cabaret will showcase the talents of many local singers and actors, including Ashley Rae and Hillary Little from Cabrillo Stage, Joyce Michaelson and Susan Boes of Um Gee Um, Eleanor Hunter, Christina Cree and Brie Michaud, Geoff (Wild Bill Cody from Annie Get Your Gun) and Bobbie Ward, David Jackson and Zina Urquhart from Annie Get Your Gun, and Sandi Stoltenkamp from Santa Cruz Follies.

Youth performers will also take the stage with special performances by SVPA’s Youth Shakespeare group, presenting a montage from its summer production of Romeo and Juliet, and Santa Cruz’s Christian Youth Theater performing a selection from Snoopy: the Musical.

According to Carolyn Dugger, SVPA’s president, the Broadway Cabaret “is a great chance to enjoy an evening of entertainment, including wonderful singing, dancing, and acting performances from talented local performers. This family-friendly event is a perennial favorite for anyone who loves live performances, and our sixth annual Broadway Cabaret is sure to be a big hit!”

Along with the Broadway Cabaret, the upcoming SVPA’s 2012 season is packed with quality and lively entertainment. On March 22, SVPA will work in conjunction with Scotts Valley Middle School students as they take on 1776: A Staged Reading, which is a reenactment of the Second Continental Congress. In July, the organization will stage Mother Goose Meets Dr. Seuss and Other Strange Encounters, “a debut performance that will provide audiences both young and old with a delightful hour of fun by bringing famous nursery rhymes and characters from children's literature to the stage.” And then in September SVPA will stage its big fall musical, which will be the heartwarming tale of Annie.

In order to stage its productions throughout the year, fundraisers such as the Broadway Cabaret are critical. This year’s event will include a silent auction that will offer attendees the opportunity to bid on a number of great items, including a group dinner at an Aptos beach house, Adventure Sports gift certificate, Sky High Jump certificates, and jewelry. All money raised from the auction will be used to support the upcoming 2012 productions.

The Scotts Valley Performing Arts’ Broadway Cabaret is on March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Olivet University Williams Theatre, 800 Bethany Dr. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.svpaa.org, or call 831-566-9411.
