Get Out in Scotts Valley: A Mixer, the Banana Slug String Band and More

Hang out with Thomas the Train, enhance your business at a Chamber of Commerce mixer and enjoy a concert in the park this week in the Scotts Valley area.

Where/When: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Friday, 6:30-8:30 p.m. 

Why Go: The Edgar Winter Band will hit the stage for a pair of shows and perform such hits as "Frankenstein" and "They Only Come Out at Night" for the beachgoers in attendance. Formed in late 1972, the band has been touring for four decades and is still going strong.

Where/When: Roaring Camp Railroads, 5355 Graham Hill Rd., Felton. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy the scenic Santa Cruz Mountains with the family and light up their eyes with the appearance of the popular children's television character Thomas the Train. This unique weekend escape is just up the road and is a great midday adventure for the entire family.

Where/When: Tree Circus Center, 4652 Scotts Valley Dr. Thursday, 7 p.m. 

Why Go: Network, network and network some more! The business mixer provides a great opportunity to showcase your business, mingle and enjoy a night out among fellow Scotts Valley residents.

Where/When: Workforce Santa Cruz County Career Center, 2045 40th Ave., Capitola. Thursday, 3-4 p.m. 

Why Go: Learn the “ins and outs” of applying for jobs with the University of California Santa Cruz. A representative of the university will explain the application process and answer questions. In this economy, any chance you get to network and learn more about possible job openings, the better.

Where/When: Museum of Natural History-Santa Cruz, 1305 E. Cliff Dr. Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 

Why Go: Local favorite, the Banana Slug String Band, will hit the stage for a fun-filled performance highlighting the animals in the temporary exhibit “Endangered Neighbors.” The band will perform a 10:30 a.m. and noon show for all museum patrons. 

Pricing: $4 general, $2 seniors and free for members and youth under 18.
