Nominate Your Favorite Candidate for Citizen of the Year

The deadline is Nov. 29, and the winner will be announced at the Paint the Town Red bash in January.

OK, Novato, who should be our Citizen of the Year for 2012?

It's a tough call. Lots of people have risen above, led a noble effort of some sort and made the city proud. It's quite an honor, and it's one taken pretty seriously.

Last year the title went to Dennis Hagerty, a key leader with the Novato Fourth of July Parade, the Novato Festival of Art, Wine & Music, the downtown Novato Theater renovation, the Rotary Club of Novato and many other efforts.

Each year the Citizens of the Year Committee, in conjunction with the Novato Chamber of Commerce, City of Novato, School Fuel and the Downtown Novato Business Association, seek nominations of people who would make a good choice. Those groups often ask leaders at our service organizations, clubs and churches for nominations, but Novato Patch is asking you to participate.

Candidates must have lived or worked in Novato for at least seven years and should be a person "who has given exceedingly outstanding volunteer service to the Novato community," according to the judging criteria. Civic contributions should be in a number of areas such as youth organizations, churches or service organizations in addition to

his or her business or profession. The candidate should not hold public office at the time of nomination.

If you have nominated someone in the past who was not selected, it's perfectly fine to re-nominate.

The filing deadline is Nov. 29, and that's coming up quickly. See the attached forms and consider promoting your No. 1 choice.

Submit your applications to PTTR Inc., P.O. Box 2715, Novato, CA 94948. Applications will be reviewed by the committee and the winner will be announced at the 53rd annual Paint the Town Red, Novato’s "Birthday Bash Celebration," on Jan. 18 at the Margaret Todd Senior Center at 1560 Hill Road.

Even if you pass on the Citizen of the Year nomination, you shouldn't miss the biggest civic party of the year. Check out the website for all the details.

I nominate Toni Shroyer for her tireless work on many different issues including the police dogs, anti-graffiti, raising school supplies for local schools to name a few. She consistently and actively works on a daily basis to make Novato a better place to live.

I nominate Jennifer Delucchi. Jennifer is co-owner of Personally Yours photography studio in downtown Novato. For many years she has been one of the unsung heros of NUSD giving tireless hours volunteering. She has also helped at St. Anthony's with the yearly rummage sale and luncheons. Since she has opened her studio she has participated in many downtown events to promote Novato and capture the memories for families at an affordable rate. Jennifer is a great representative of Novato.

I would like to nominate Sam Roth.

Love it! And maybe we could give an actual award, like a "Golden Keyboard" award. Or the "Platinum Mouse." You know, dip a piece of computer equipment like a keyboard or a mouse into the finest metal around, put it on a trophy, and hand it out the worthiest member of the Novato Patch community! But, I find myself stumped. Who could be worthy of such an honor within the Novato Patch community?! I'm gonna ponder it whilst singing a little ditty to m'self ... Tina, Tina, Bo-Bee-Nah, Banana Nanan Bo-Bee-Nah, Fee Fi Fo Fina .... TINA!

I second Tina.
