Several people got a chance to ride Santa Cruz's newest holiday train on Saturday afternoon.

Hundreds of people showed up to the Swift Street Courtyard for a chance to see the new holiday train at the Right On Track Rail Corridor event on Saturday afternoon.

Just about every child and grown-up looked excited and eager to get on the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway owned by the Iowa Pacific Railroad's local branch.

After Saturday's first set of rides, the train is set to make scheduled trips on the weekends to Christmas Town which is set up in an out-of-town field near Wilder Ranch.

The train went through ribbons and stoped for an hour in Watsonville, Aptos, Capitola and the Simpkins Family Swim Center along its journey to Swift Street.

However, Saturday wasn't just about the SC & MB Railway showing off their new toy to the public. According to the Santa Cruz Regional Transportaion Commission website, it was also "A community event to commemorate public ownership and demonstrate potential use of the rail corridor."

The train will run Nov. 23-25, Nov. 28-30, Dec. 1-2, Dec. 5-9, Dec. 12-16, Dec. 19-23, Dec. 27-30 and Jan. 4-6. Tickets are $25 for kids under 12 and $35 for adults.

More tax payer money down another rail sink hole. You know they talk about sustainability. It would be nice if just one govt transportation scheme could sustain itself. More govt jobs more govt pensions more dept for the children. What greed the govt workers have and what lack of fiscal reasonability towards future generations,

Riding the train last Saturday was a wonderful treat. Here are the photos I took (on public Facebook album) from 5 Whistle Stops! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151145396737293.444822.532117292&type=1&l=9c9b403b75

Just as I thought- 100% accessible. Brings to mind the song: "Hope I Die Before I Get Old". I don't know why. No idea.
