Storm Watch: Series of Storms Promises High Winds and Rain

A wind advisory for Santa Cruz County and the northern Monterey Bay begins at 4 a.m. Wednesday, with rain predicted to start just in time for the morning commute.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Santa Cruz County and northern Monterey Bay, beginning at 4 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The winter storm heads our way with the "first strong cold front of the season," which will bring winds strong enough to bring down weak trees and branches, and leading to possible power outages, according to the NWS.

Southerly wind gusts from 45 to 55 mph are expected, and could reach up to 70 mph over ridges and along the coast.

The rain isn't predicted to start until around 6 or 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Showers are likely throughout the day.

Wind this strong can make driving difficult, warns the NWS, so be careful in your morning commute, especially if you're driving a "high profile" vehicle. (I think this means "tall".)

NOAA also warns that individual wave height will be twice the significant wave height.

This storm is the first storm in a "series of storms" headed straight for us, according to NOAA:

"A series of storms have lined up in the Pacific, all heading towards the Western U.S. coast. Heavy winds and rains are expected over the next week as these systems move inland. Up to a foot of precipitation is expected in Northern California."

We live off of Scotts Valley Drive. There is a person that drives up and down Scotts Valley DriveRead More quite often. He has a dog that rides in the back of his pickup truck. The dog barks as he is riding and sounds like he is just in heaven going for those rides. We want to tip our hat to this man for being such a good dog parent. We look forward to hearing those barks of excitement for many moons to come. Right on sir! And keep on being the good parent you are.
