Take a look back at the last seven days in news in Scotts Valley.

It was a busy week in Scotts Valley and in case you missed any of our coverage here is a recap of our top stories of the week.

Monday was a sad day on the Bethany University campus as President Lew Shelton announced that . Shelton said the school was immediately beginning a “teach out” mode with classes ending for good on Aug. 15.

On a happier note, this week the Scotts Valley Police Department participated in the 2011 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Ten officers from the SVPD ran the Flame of Hope through the streets of Scotts Valley as it made its way to the summer games in Davis. This week also seemed to be one of giving back. On June 16 we spotlighted a group of fourth- and fifth-graders at San Agustin Catholic Church known aswho spent the last year performing various types of community service.

Scotts Valley-based Universal Audio was also in the giving spirit and for earthquake relief efforts in Japan.

There has been a lot of controversy lately over PG&E’s new SmartMeters and this week the company that it will begin installing the devices in homes throughout Santa Cruz County, including in Scotts Valley.
