Journey Fantastique: Art and Poetry in Motion

This year SVPA Youth Shakespeare has expanded its repertoire to include a second show, Journey Fantastique: Art and Poetry in Motion.   A truly multi media performance, it is a collaboration of paintings by well known Santa Cruz artist James Carl Aschbacher, stories told in verse about the artwork by Trish Black Melehan, and the lively music of Ragtime’s Scott Joplin, performed by local pianist and piano teacher Samantha Allott.  Thinking about a book she had worked on a few years ago with Aschbacher, the vision of many voices of all ages acting out poems which had been written to add narrative to several of Aschbacher’s colorful, whimsical paintings began to take shape and thus a show was born!

Journey Fantastique: Art and Poetry in Motion July 16 at 2 PM and July 17 at 6:30 PM.
