Why Go: It's summer and the summer fruits are delicious, but they won't always be around. So why not learn to jam them to have them later in the year. And you can learn to do this from an expert—Pim Techamuanvivit of ChezPim. Here's what's on the table—a basic, straight-up berry jam without using commercial pectic, followed by a herb-infused berry jam. Next comes a berry conserve with whole fruits, and last but not least, Blenheim apricot jam.

Pricing: $115

Where/When: 231 Esplanade, Capitola. Saturday and Sunday, all day.

Why Go: Don't miss this annual Capitola car show, featuring over 300 hot rods, including muscle cars, coupes, roadsters, customs and classics. These cars are vintage to 1972. Who doesn't enjoy looking at the cars that used to be? Great fun for the family and you are near the beach, too!

Pricing: Free to attend

Where/When: 2809 Mission St. (Digital Media Factory). Santa Cruz, Saturday 9 a.m.

Why Go: The actual event is at Cabrillo College Theatre, but it's sold out, so don't bother going there. But what you can do is this—join the free live viewing party in Santa Cruz at the Digital Media Factory and the Digital Signage Factory. They will be showing the event live, in real time, on their high-resolution projector with a large screen and excellent sound system. There is seating for 250 people.

Pricing: Free, but reserve a seat by registering online for the Live TEDxSantaCruz Viewing Party.

Where/When: 401 Upper Park Rd., Santa Cruz (Delaveaga Golf Course). Friday, 12:30-5 p.m.

Why Go: The Symphony League of Santa Cruz County will be having its first annual golf tournament, "Chip in for the Symphony," at De Laveaga Golf Course. It is a Scramble and Best Ball Tournament and you are invited to be a participant.

Pricing: $135 to play, or be a hole sponsor for $200.
