Grab and Go Kids Planner: A Different Way to Celebrate Mother's Day

A Mother's Day walk in the woods, a stop at the farmers market and then a ride to Capitola for the beachfront kite classic are part of our Kids Planner for this weekend.

Where/When: , 360 Kings Village Rd. Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Why Go: Do your shopping organically and close to home. Shop local, cook local and eat healthy.  What can be better than consuming the fruits and vegetables that are grown in or close to Scotts Valley?

Where/When: Big Basin Redwood State Park. Sunday, 12:45-1:45 p.m.; meet at the flagpole.

Why Go: Pass on the brunch, grab your kids and head out for a walk to celebrate Mother's Day and the mothers who came before you as well. And after your walk in the woods, you can have a Mother's Day picnic with your family. But first, the docent on your walk will help you revisit the past, because she will be dressing in period costumes to portray some of the women who came before you (and her!)

Where/When: , 230 Mt. Hermon Rd. Thursday, 10:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m.

Why Go: Get your kids hooked on books at an early age by exposing them to the best from the start. Your Scotts Valley storytelling librarians will make the idea of books and reading fun from the start. Participants will read books, sing songs and play together. Best for children between the ages of 1 and 3.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: 877 Cedar St., Santa Cruz, (Cruzio Internet). Friday, 7-9 p.m.

Why Go: It will be Cruzio Internet's Fiber Night which will celebrate their new fiber optic cable. This night will be fun for the entire family with live performances, a flip of the fiber switch and plenty of light-filled giveaways.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: 203 Esplanade, Capitola (At Main Beach). Saturday, 11 a.m. 

Why Go: Need you ask? Cool breeze, cool kites, cool kids and family time makes for a perfect build-up to Mothers Day. If you have a kite, bring it and fly it. If you don't, just come to watch and see the colorful display. Your kids will enjoy it and so will you. Judging will take place at about 1:30 p.m.

Pricing: Free, donations go to the Capitola Flood Relief Fund.
