Virgo Rising Opens in Scotts Valley

A mystical new store has moved to Scotts Valley, adding a touch of magic to the Kings Village Shopping Center. Virgo Rising celebrated its grand opening in a new location at 220-C Mt. Hermon Rd. on Saturday, and dozens of people streamed through the shop to check it out and get a free tarot card reading. 

"A lot of people came to welcome me in Scotts Valley, many people were my customers from the other location and they came to honor my move," said the store's owner Karen Diamond.

Diamond originally opened Virgo Rising twenty years ago in Ben Lomond with the help of a friend. 

"I was a craftsperson for 23 years, travelling the country doing craft fairs. In 1992 my husband left and I decided I really needed to do something," Diamond said.

Her first dream was to open an earring shop. Her friend helped her realize the dream, and now Virgo Rising sells much, much more than just earrings—jewelry, candles, clothing, books, incense, and fun sparkly things that don't cost too much," said Diamond, who tries to keep affordable items in the store. 

Diamond is excited about the new location for a several reasons. Its location directly across from Nob Hill Foods, and close to restaurants, coffee shops and the movie theater make it a prime retail location.

"I wanted to establish a presence here before the town center came in, and I live in Scotts Valley," Diamond said. 

The other major plus to this location is a brightly lit second floor, spacious and full of windows. Diamond says this will be where the classes, workshops and readings that she plans on hosting will be held. 

Customers can look forward to Tarot and astrology readings, and classes in the metaphysical arts—dreams, Tarot, oils, and anything that people are passionate about, said Diamond, who has scheduled a few workshops and says she is open to more.

Later this month there will be Reiki sessions by a Reiki.
