Attention parents — free fun for your kids alert.

On Thursday, Feb. 28, Mav'Riks, the Santa Cruz Warriors mascot, will be at the 7-Eleven in Scotts Valley, ready to take photos and offer free food.

The Warriors announced on Tuesday that the seven locally-owned 7-Eleven stores in Santa Cruz County are the new sponsor of Mav'Riks. To kick off the sponsorship, the stores are hosting welcome parties.

The Scotts Valley welcome party is from 3-7 p.m., with the mascot on hand from 4-6 at the 274 Mt. Hermon Road location.

7-Eleven will offer free fresh sandwiches and energy drinks. A $1 donation to Grind Out Hunger will get you an apple and a Pepsi.

“7-Eleven and its franchisees in Santa Cruz want to be a part of the community and give back in areas that are important to our guests,” said Nancy Taylor, zone leader for 7-Eleven stores in Northern California and northwestern Nevada. “The new Warriors basketball team is creating excitement, and we want to share the fun with our 7-Eleven guests by hosting Mav’Riks’ visits to our stores.”

Mav'Riks will also appear at the 7-Elevens at 602 Laurel St. and 1875 Soquel Dr. on March 5 (4-6 p.m.), at 218 Cardiff Pl.in Santa Cruz and 455 Airport Rd. in Watsonville on March 7 (4-6 p.m.) and at at 3036 Portola Dr. on March 16 (1-3 p.m.).

We live off of Scotts Valley Drive. There is a person that drives up and down Scotts Valley DriveRead More quite often. He has a dog that rides in the back of his pickup truck. The dog barks as he is riding and sounds like he is just in heaven going for those rides. We want to tip our hat to this man for being such a good dog parent. We look forward to hearing those barks of excitement for many moons to come. Right on sir! And keep on being the good parent you are.
