Howl it up at the Halloween Hoe-Down!

Pet costume contest, live music, half price adoptions and more at the county animal shelter.

Hounds and humans will have a howling good time at the "Halloween Hoe-Down" on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 1-4 p.m. at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS), 2200 7th Ave. in Santa Cruz. For a $5 donation, you can compete in the Pet Costume Contest with prizes at 2:30 p.m., featuring local celebrity judges. Other fun will be live music by the Western Skylarks, food by Johnny's Harborside, face painting, pumpkin seed spitting and pet photos.

The shelter will also be offering adoptions at half price: cats and dogs and rabbits...oh my! Adoptions are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

All adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip (including registration), age appropriate vaccinations, Felv/FIV testing, routine treatment for fleas/worms, and a free pet wellness exam with local participating veterinarians.
