The week started off on a high note with our coverage on Monday of the Cops ‘N Rodders event sponsored by the Scotts Valley Police Department that took place over the weekend. In case you missed it, go back and take a look at our for a look at some of the classic cars that cruised their way into town.

Monday was a busy day for our local firefighters as they fought a behind an abandoned house on Conference Drive.

This week also marked the grilling steaks in a Midwestern style at Peachwood's restaurant at the Pasatiempo Inn. The chef also received proclamations from the cities of Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley recognizing his work.

The Scotts Valley City Council met this week to discuss to make its move to the city into the former Seagate building on Disc Drive. The council voted unanimously to waive the cost of an impact study and to allow Bay Photo to pay $36,000 in building permit fees over a three-year period.

On Friday, our youth and recreation sports columnist, Kelly Utic, told us about a that took place recently in Skypark. The British Sports Camp taught local kids all about the sports that are big on the other side of the pond–soccer, rugby, cricket and rounders. 

And finally, the week ended on a sad note when 18-year-old Scotts Valley resident when a car he was riding in plunged into an agricultural pond in Davenport. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, Les Olympio, 49, lost control of the vehicle and flew down and 80-foot embankment, landing in the pond.
