Winds Die Down, But Power Still Out For Many

PG&E says power should be restored today or tomorrow for nearly 22,000 still without power.

Tens of thousands of Santa Cruz County PG&E customers are waking up to no power this morning for the second day in a row due to a wind storm that blew through the Bay Area Wednesday and Thursday.

As of 6 a.m. 24,060 Santa Cruz County residents were without power, including 1,700 in Scotts Valley where outages were reported yesterday on Scotts Valley Drive, Glenwood Drive, Granite Creek and Tabor Drive.

Santa Cruz County was the hardest hit area of the storm, according to PG&E, because of all of the lush vegetation in the area. Since the storm began, a total 29,600 were affected by outages in the county, said PG&E spokesperson Joe Molica.

The winds continued into last night, but PG&E said the impact stayed the same through the night.

PG&E officials said most outages are expected to be restored by the end of today, but more remote locations, such as those in Santa Cruz County, may be without power until Saturday.

“We are diligently working to get the majority of service restored today, but some customers may not get power back until tomorrow,” Molica said. “Since the wind has died down today, we are making some progress.”

In the immediate Bay Area a total of 1,040 customers have no power this morning. In the South Bay 690 customers are still without power this morning. In the East Bay 340 customers have had their power knocked.
