Get Out: Your Guide to a Great Weekend

It's all about celebrating the holidays this weekend.

Where/When: , 360 Kings Village Rd. Friday, 6 p.m.

What: Scotts Valley Performing Arts is hosting a Victorian Christmas Dinner fundraiser. The event will include a full dinner with dessert and one beverage coupon and a live and silent auction, along with theatrical and classic holiday entertainment. Proceeds from the event will support SVPA’s 2012 Youth Shakespeare production of Romeo and Juliet and the 2012 fall musical production.

Price: Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door and can be purchased at www.svpaa.org.

Where/When: , Student Union, 555 Glenwood Dr. Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

What: Scotts Valley theater students will take the stage in John Patrick’s The Curious Savage. The play, written in 1950, tells the story of an elderly woman, Mrs. Savage, who was left $10 million by her late husband. Mrs. Savage, played by senior Kendra Kannegaard, is placed in “The Cloisters” sanatorium by her three greedy stepchildren who want the money for themselves. The play confronts the ideas of greed and kindness, and also contemplates the fine line between sanity and insanity.

Price: Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for non-students. You can buy them at the door or at www.showtix4u.com.

Where/When: Skov Winery, 2364 Bean Creek Rd. Saturday, noon-4:30 p.m.

What: The winery is hosting a holiday party and will be tasting its newly released zinfandel port, along with other wines. You’ve Got a Friend in Cheeses will be offering samples of hand-made jams and chow-chow’s. Local jewelry artists, such as Dim-Store Designs and Nightingale Art Studios will also be on site showcasing their fabulous pieces, which will be for sale.

Price: Complimentary wine tasting and $5 glasses of wine will be available along with holiday wine discounts.

Mountain Parks Foundation Holiday Gift & Craft Faire

Where/When: Mountain Parks Nature Store, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, Highway 9, Felton. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

What: Local artists and craft people will come together for the Mountain Parks Foundation’s 19th annual Holiday Gift & Craft Faire. The faire will feature unique natural gifts that will be available for purchase, as well as craft booths, live music, children’s activities, a raffle, and baked good and hot beverages.

Price: The event is free. Items will be available for purchase at various prices.

Roaring Camp Holiday Tree Walk and Holiday Lights Train

Where/When: Roaring Camp, 5401 Graham Hill Road,
Felton. Saturday and Sunday, various time.

What: What better way to celebrate the holidays than by heading up to the mountains for a festive train ride through the redwoods. Roaring Camp is offering two different events to choose from this holiday season. The Holiday Tree Walk begins and ends at Roaring Camp and will take passengers on a steam train ride through the tree-lined walk of festive trees displayed atop Bear Mountain.

The Holiday Lights Train departs from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and takes passengers on a ride on vintage excursion cars, adorned with thousands of colorful lights. The train rolls through the city streets on its way up the mountain to Roaring Camp. Passengers will sing along to seasonal carols while sipping hot-spiced cider, listen to musical entertainment, and enjoy a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Price: Tickets for the Holiday Tree Walk are $24 for adults and $17 for children. Tickets for the Holiday Lights Train are $26 for adults, 13 and up, and $18 for children. Tickets can be purchased at www.roaringcamp.com. Advance reservations are recommended.
