Community Corner

Meet Janet Gluch

Get to know your Scotts Valley neighbors a little better.

Scotts Valley Patch: What is your occupation?

Janet Gluch: I work in the development office of Hospice of Santa Cruz County. The compassionate support offered for both the dying and those who love them is such a gift to our community–it has taught me to be more present as a parent and a friend.

Gluch: 23 years.

Patch: What brought you to the area?

Gluch: Right out of high school, my sister and I drove through northern California and were very impressed with the natural beauty of the area. Many years later, a work opportunity came through and we jumped at the chance to live here.

Patch: What is something you are known for?

Gluch: Winning many raffle prizes. My best win was a trip to Hawaii for four, airfare, condo and car included. The strangest one was ten pounds of manure, which actually did come in handy in my garden!

Gluch: Excavating the junk from my garage.

Patch: What is your greatest indulgence?

Gluch: A “double-double” from In N Out Burger and reading People magazine at the hairdressers.

Patch: One of your most memorable vacations?

Gluch: Taking my daughter Alison to Lake Como before she started college. We walked through beautiful villages laughing, trying on lots of fantastic shoes, drinking many cappuccinos and enjoying fabulous meals in outdoor cafes while speaking marginal Italian.

Patch: What is a goal you are chasing after?

Gluch: Deepening my faith, a closer relationship with God.

Patch: What do you like most about life in Scotts Valley?

Gluch: When I go to the market, I always run into someone I know, and living under the redwoods.
