Salsa's Taco Bar Opens

New Mexican restaurant opens in old KFC space.

After a couple of months of construction and remodeling, Salsa’s Taco Bar opened on Tuesday in the former Kentucky Fried Chicken building on Mt. Hermon Road.

This is the second location of Salsa’s, the first is in Santa Cruz on Brommer Street, and the restaurant offers a wide array of Mexican fare. Along with its signature 5-pound burrito with numerous choices of fillings, the menu also includes soups such as pozole and menudo, breakfast items, a large vegan menu, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, tortas, specialties like steak fajitas and Shrimp a la Diablo, and daily lunch and dinner special. All items have your choice of meat, including carne asada, carnitas, chile verde,

lengua, pollo asado, pastor, and barbacoa.

And as the name suggests, there is plenty of salsa to go around. The fresh salsa bar has around 10 salsas for you to enjoy with chips and on your meals.

Have you tried out Salsa’s yet? What did you get? And what do you think of this new addition to Scotts Valley dining?

I had the tacos there yesterday and they were really good, so was the salsa. Has anyone else tried it yet?

Do they have crisp taco shells or soft, or both?
Shannon Burkey (Editor) August 23, 2012 at 03:46 pm
They have both. I had soft though. They were really good, piled high with meat.

A vegan menu! That's great. Can't wait to give the place a try. Sounds like it is so much better than KFC. Are they using the drive up window for to-go orders?

We hated to see Kentucky Fried Chicken leave. We LOVE their chicken. Will there ever be another in Scotts Valley?
DaxtheGinger August 27, 2012 at 01:17 pm
I highly doubt it and now that Wendys is closed its showing what people in Scotts Valley are really eating, fresh food from local people.
DaxtheGinger August 27, 2012 at 01:19 pm
Yes they are using the drive thru.

I came to SV today to take a cha cha lesson at Palomar Ballroom by the Mint.
Afterwards, I remembered this article so stopped in to try the food. The counter person was friendly and helpful and offered me samples while I was making my decision. They made my chicken quesadillas with corn tortillas instead of flour, since I am sensitve to gluten. I give the food a High Five!

I really like it. The vegan taquitos are one of my favorites, and I also like both the regular vegan and crispy vegan tacos. The beans are vegan and so is the rice. The portions are very large.

The Grumpy Little Bluebird is available through Ingram and Baker and Taylor to bookstores andRead More libraries. It can also be bought by the general public through Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com. I would really love to get into as many local and independent bookstores as possible. Sell sheet available upon request. Thank you!

There was an injury accident on southbound Highway 17 between Vine Hill and Granite Creek roads. ARead More silver SUV went over the side around 11:30 a.m. Two people were trapped in the vehicle, badly hurt and the car was smoking. One was taken by helicopter to a trauma center, the other by regular ambulance -- all according to emergency radio traffic. We'll try to have more on the crash from the CHP tomorrow.
