Body Pulled From Seacliff State Beach

The Sheriff's Department hasn't released the identity of the body, but they had been searching the area around the pier all morning for a missing Aptos teen.

The Santa Cruz Sheriff's office said it had found a body on Seacliff State Beach near the pier Thursday at 1:30 p.m, after a resident phoned 9-1-1.

Deputies and State Parks officers had been searching the area Wednesday looking for missing Aptos teen Nate Phillips, who took off from home Dec. 2 on his bicycle and hadn't been seen since.

His bicycle was found near the entrance to the State Park. He told his family he was going on an adventure, they told sheriffs.

Wednesday a team of divers swam under the pier while boats and paddleboarders circled around looking for Phillips.

"I am unable to say when an identification will be made," said Sheriff's spokesman Ryan Kennedy. "Additionally, after an identification is determined, the next of kin of the deceased is notified prior to anyone else and they are given time to give their relatives notifications before we release any names."
