CAL FIRE Lifts Open Burning Suspension

The agency will again allow open burning on declared burn days through April 2012.

The suspension on open burning in the county issued by CAL FIRE on Dec. 5 has been rescinded.

Gusty winds and low humidity in the area in the past weeks prompted the temporary ban, CAL FIRE said.

Starting Monday, open burning will again be allowed in the unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties through April 30, 2012. However, open burning can only take place on declared burn days determined by the local air quality management agency. To find out about scheduled burn days in Santa Cruz County, contact the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District at 800-225-2876.
