Child Porn Possession Lands Former School Official Six Months in Jail

Steven Shields served as Newark Unified’s chief business official from 2008 to mid-2011.

A former Newark Unified school official was has been ordered to serve six months in county jail for possessing child pornography, according to media reports.

Steven Shields, 44, served as Newark Unified’s chief business official from 2008 to mid-2011.

He was sentenced Friday by a Solano County Superior Court judge, according to The Vacaville Reporter.

The sentence came after Shields pleaded no contest to one felony count of child pornography possession last month.

Shields, who was Vacaville Unified School District’s assistant superintendent at the time of his arrest, was arrested on Nov. 3, 2011 at his Clayton home.

The pornography was found on the former school official’s personal laptop, according to the Vacaville Reporter.

Shields’ work computer was not part of the investigation.

As a precaution after his arrest, Newark Unified’s Information Department examined the entire district’s computer system and said that "everything on our end and [throughout] Newark Unified was clean." Shields did not work directly with students, the district added.

Sick freak. I always knew he was weird dealing with him in school stuff. Little man issues. I hope he gets all he deserves in jail. You always hear criminals don't like people that hurt women & children. I hope it's true!!!

Slap on the Wrist LOL! When he gets out shortly, (he'll Serve less than 6 Months) he will be better Educated on how not to get Caught next time! People like this don't just start collecting Kiddie Porn one day out of the Blue, they Horde it over time and grow a Thirst for it. Would he actually feel up your kid? Probably not. At least not until he drove up the Stakes quite a bit and sought out more Risky Thrills. People like this don't change, they're Destined to be the Quintessential Boogie Man in your Child's Room at night! I wouldn't be surprised if there are many more just like him at NUSD as School Settings are typically rampant with this type of Moral Depravity. While on the Upside, having to Register as a Sex Offender is a given; the downside is that these people rarely ever change for the better because of their Experiences and usually get worse as any other Addiction.
