One Motorcycle Crash Begets the Next on Highway 9

Two motorcyclists crashed during the morning commute Tuesday

Two motorcyclist commuters heading north together on Highway 9 Tuesday morning were injured in two separate crashes moments apart, the California Highway Patrol reported. 

The series of accidents happened around 6:55 a.m. south of upper Highway 236.

Tim Carnes Jr, 31, of Boulder Creek was riding second when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the the road, according to the CHP. Carnes flipped his 2003 Harley and was ejected from the bike. 

His riding partner, 47-year-old Paul Boodt of Ben Lomond, was ahead but got distracted by the crash behind him. As Boodt exited the curve, his ran off the right side of the highway and collided with a tree. He was flung from his 2003 Beull, according to the CHP. 

Both riders sustained moderate injuries and received some treatment at the scene. They refused ambulance rides, but Carnes arranged a ride to Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz and Boodt went to Valley Medical Center in San Jose, the CHP reported.
