Pair of Would-Be Burglars Arrested Friday Night

Police found the two suspects with break-in tools at the Scotts Valley shopping center.

A pair of would-be burglars was arrested Friday night after police found several tools commonly used to commit burglaries stashed in their car.

Police arrested 30-year-old MiroSlava Duran and 41-year-old Mario Martinez, both from Salinas, on suspicion of possessing burglary tools.

Officers found the pair inside a parked car after responding to a suspicious persons report in the Scotts Village shopping center around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Police discovered Duran sitting in the car's front seat listening to a police scanner and Martinez hiding under a blanket in the backseat.

A search of the vehicle revealed several tools apparently gathered with the intention to commit burglaries, including pry bars and masks, police said.

Police said neither suspect had an explanation for being in Scotts
