Police Find Man Sleeping in His Car with Loaded Gun

The man was arrested for a DUI and possession of a loaded concealed firearm.

A 53-year-old San Jose man was arrested in Scotts Valley early
this morning when police allegedly found him asleep in his vehicle with a
loaded gun.

At about 2:10 a.m., police found a vehicle pulled over on El
Rancho Drive near Highway 17, according to Scotts Valley police.

The vehicle was blocking a driveway and the driver appeared to be asleep, police said.

The man said he was driving back to Santa Clara County from a wedding in Pebble Beach when he became tired and pulled over to sleep.       

The man, later identified as Erasto Ortiz, was arrested for DUI.

During a search of Ortiz' car, officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the center console.

Ortiz was booked at Santa Cruz County jail for DUI and possession of a loaded concealed firearm in a vehicle.
