Downed Wires Cause Road Closures and Power Outtages

What to do if you see wires down.

Firefighters of Ben Lomond Fire Protection District are working to remove a tree that fell across power lines on Scenic Way on Saturday morning, according to Emergency Radio Traffic.

The live wires were not severed, and power does not appear to be lost, according to a volunteer at the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District. PG&E has been notified, and the road should be clear in the next hour or so, according to Ben Lomond Fire Protection District.

Around 10:36 a.m., Ben Lomond Fire Protection District responded to another report of wires down at Roberts Road and the road was closed shortly before 11 a.m. The wires were down and smoldering, according to Emergency Radio Traffic.

Friday's heavy winter rains and gusts of winds will likely return by Saturday night.

Here are a few key tips on what to do if you see power lines down, courtesy of PG&E:

1. Keep yourself, loved ones and pets away from the wire, even if it is not sparking or humming, it could be live, and it could kill you if you touch it.

2. Notify local emergency officials and PG&E at 800-PGE-5000.

3. Do not touch anything that touches the line either, this goes for trees, fences, and vehicles.

4. If a line falls on your car while you are in it, do not exit the vehicle unless you absolutely have to. Call for help. If you must exit, jump clear of the vehicle, never touching the vehicle and the road at the same time, as this could cause the electricity to run through your body.
