Slain Police Officer Lived Near Scotts Valley

Elizabeth Butler lived on Sims Road, just over a mile from the Scotts Valley city limit.

Two Santa Cruz police officers were tragically shot and killed on Tuesday afternoon — marking the first deaths of any active SCPD officers in the department's history.

The victims have been identified as Detective Elizabeth Butler, a 10-year veteran, and Butch Baker, a 28-year veteran.

Butler is survived by her partner Peter and their two young sons. She lived on Sims Road near Pasatiempo golf course, just 1.3 miles south of the Scotts Valley city limit.

Baker, a Santa Cruz resident, leaves his wife, two daughters and a son. His son also works for the department.

We live off of Scotts Valley Drive. There is a person that drives up and down Scotts Valley DriveRead More quite often. He has a dog that rides in the back of his pickup truck. The dog barks as he is riding and sounds like he is just in heaven going for those rides. We want to tip our hat to this man for being such a good dog parent. We look forward to hearing those barks of excitement for many moons to come. Right on sir! And keep on being the good parent you are.
