Special Olympics Torch to Make a Stop in Scotts Valley

Scotts Valley Police will run the torch through the streets of the city on Wednesday.

Scotts Valley residents are in for a treat this Wednesday when the torch for the Special Olympics of Northern California will make its way through the streets of the city on its way to the summer games in Davis.

Each year, the Special Olympics torch is run by law enforcement officers throughout the state who are the “Guardians of the Torch.” The event is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, a year-round fundraising campaign by more than 500 law enforcement personnel from around the state.

The Flame of Hope will travel hundreds of miles throughout 21 counties, including Santa Cruz, and will arrive in Davis, Calif. for the start of the games on June 22.

The Scotts Valley Police Department will receive the torch at approximately 2:20 p.m. on June 13 at the Scotts Valley Hilton.

The torch will follow the same route it has in years past when the SVPD has participated in the event. Leaving from the Hilton, the torch will head up Mt. Hermon Road toward Scotts Valley Drive, then north on Scotts Valley Drive to Glenwood Drive.
