SVPD to Host Motorcycle Safety Class

Learn safety and survival skills from current and former officers.

The Scotts Valley Police Officers Association will be hosting a Motorcycle Safety Training Course teaching everyday safety and survival skills for civilian riders.

The class will be taught by SVPD Lt. John Hohmann, SVPD Sgt. Dave Ball, Capitola PD officer Tom Damsen, retired CHP officer George Kline, and retired San Jose PD officer Buck Harris.

  • Nomenclature of Motorcycle
  • Mounting/Dismounting of Motorcycle
  • Raising a downed Motorcycle
  • Stationary Shifting    
  • Straight-line start off
  • Figure 8    
  • Offset cone weave    
  • 90-degree pull outs
  • Defensive driving techniques    
  • Slow cone weave
  • Controlled Braking    
  • Cone patterns

The class is on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Scotts Valley High School, 555 Glenwood Dr. The cost is $250 and includes lunch, a t-shirt and a Certificate of Completion.

Participants are required to have a motorcycle, DOT helmet, glasses, full fingered gloves, ankle high boots, and must provide proof of M1 endorsement and auto insurance on the day of the class.
