Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Armed Felon in Car with Teens

Felton resident Jeffrey Greer was arrested in Scotts Valley Monday morning.

Scotts Valley Police officers conducting a traffic stop arrested a 21-year-old felon who was in possession of a handgun and in the company of four teenagers on Monday morning.

At approximately 1 a.m., officers stopped a GMC Sierra truck on Mt. Hermon Road for a stop sign violation. The truck’s occupants were two 15-year-old girls, a 17-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and 21-year-old Felton resident, Jeffrey Young Greer.

According to Sgt. Mark Lopez, the teenage driver of the truck had never been issued a driver’s license. The driver and all of the other occupants had been drinking.

The occupants, none of whom had any form of legal identification, were removed from the vehicle and searched for weapons. Officers found a loaded, concealed handgun on Greer. An additional magazine for the gun was found in the vehicle, and a single bullet was found in the purse of one of the teenage girls.

Greer was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

The teenagers were taken to the Scotts Valley Police Department where they were released to their parents.
