Viewfinder: SVPD's Texas Hold 'Em Charity Tournament a Success

The department raised $3,800 for Special Olympics.

On Friday, Feb. 17, the Scotts Valley Police Department hosted a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament at Bruno’s Barbeque to raise funds for the Special Olympics of Northern California. The event is one of several different types of fundraisers the department holds each year to raise money for the organization.

This year, approximately 50 people turned up to try their hand and luck at poker. The night’s big winner was Kevin Smith, in second place was Brenda Schmidt and third place was Dan Winter.

Along with the initial poker buy-in and re-buys, money was raised through a raffle with items donated from several local businesses. The evening was a success with the night bringing in $3,800 for Special Olympics.
