Woman Leads Police on Car Chase Through Felton and Scotts Valley

Methamphetamine and stolen property found in car.

A state park ranger and California Highway Patrol officers were led on a car chase from Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park through Felton and Scotts Valley Tuesday morning by a 33-year-old woman in a BMW.

Megan Lefey Strong was first contacted by the state park ranger at 8:48 a.m. Tuesday in a parking lot at Henry Cowell Park for a parking violation. Strong attempted to strike the ranger with her car and recklessly fled the scene. The ranger pursued her but eventually lost sight of the car in Felton.

A CHP officer observed Strong’s BMW on La Madrona Drive and tried to initiate a stop, but she led the officer on a pursuit from there, north on Highway 17, then to a gas station on Scotts Valley Drive, where she eventually stopped.

When officers approached Strong, she refused to comply with orders until a Taser was shown to her. She was then taken into custody without further incident.

Stolen property, methamphetamine, other drugs and paraphernalia were found inside the BMW, which was impounded.
