The Friends of the Scotts Valley Library is pleased to announce new President Derek Timm.
Derek is a leading licensed Central Coast and Silicon Valley broker, a bember of State Bar of California, Silicon Valley Association of Realtors, Santa Cruz Association of Realtors, and state and national associations.
Derek is an active member of the community and was appointed by the City Council to the Scotts Valley Planning Commission. Most recently, he chaired the successful Save Our Schools Committee (recently named the Organization of the Year by Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce). He is also Vice President of the Scotts Valley Education Foundation, and was appointed by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education to the Redistricting Task Force. He is also Finance Chair of the Buck Scholars Association where he is responsible for internal and external fundraising and outreach.
His experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Friends of the Scotts Valley Library as the organization works to achieve a new list of goals for 2013, and beyond. Included in the goals for 2013 is the opening of the 3,500 square foot patio that will greatly expand the busy library, adding space for casual gatherings and library events.
Derek is replacing Elizabeth Walch, who helped found the FSVPL and has been involved since 2009. She participated in scouting a new library site, architect selection, library design and construction and has led the group in raising over $260,000 for upgrades in the library such as solar lighting, teen study booths and a bank of computers.
The library is among the most highly-used buildings in Scotts Valley today. Most recently, Elizabeth was awarded a United Way Community Hero Award for her leadership in establishing a Special Needs Resource Center. The Resource Center was partly funded through a $15,000 grant that allowed the library to compile a sizable collection of resources housed at the Scotts Valley library but available to all Santa Cruz libraries.
