Mark Stone: Register for Transitional Kindergarten Now

The assemblyman sent out a reminder for parents to get their kids signed up.

Assemblyman Mark Stone, the Scotts Valley man whose district includes the Monterey Bay shoreline and some of San Jose, sent out the following reminder on his Facebook account this week:

Registration is underway for kindergarten and transitional kindergarten! In 2013, children must be 5 years old by September 30 to start kindergarten. Some school districts offer transitional kindergarten for children whose birthday falls between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1.

Transitional kindergarten is designed to provide an opportunity for the youngest 5 year olds to be successful in school, and serve as a bridge between preschool and traditional kindergarten.

If you have any questions about registration requirements, or whether your school district offers transitional kindergarten, contact your local district office or county office of education:

Santa Cruz County Office of Education (831) 466-5600.
