Rep. Huffman Holds Online Lottery for Obama Inauguration Tickets

Entrants must fill out a form on the San Rafael Democrat's website by midnight Sunday, Jan. 13.

Looking to go to President Barack Obama’s Inauguration on Jan. 21?

One of the newest arrivals in the U.S. House of Representatives might be able to help.

Rep. Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), who was elected last November to replace retiring longtime North Bay Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey in the new 2nd Congressional District, has tickets to the Inaugural Ceremonies in Washington, D.C. on January 21, and is holding an online lottery to give away some tickets to his constituents.

“I’m looking forward to the 57th Presidential Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremonies and I’m excited to be able to invite my constituents to join me for this historic event,” Huffman said in a statement.

To be eligible to win, entrants must be a resident of California's 2nd Congressional District and fill out a form on Huffman's website by midnight Pacific time, Sunday, Jan. 13. Huffman will notify recipients by the close of business on Monday, Jan. 14.

It does seriously bother me that Obama is not getting the outrage he deserves from liberals and progressives regarding his expansion of domestic surveillance, his suspension of habeas corpus, his escalation of foreign drone assassinations, and his excessive intimidation and prosecution of whistle-blowers. The left is embarrassingly silent in allowing these transgressions to pass unchallenged without any outspoken criticism. Concerning Wall Street, the Occupy message of growing income inequality and government-sanctioned financial corruption was quickly marginalized by a corporate-owned media. Obama serves the interests of international banking and corporate interests just like many other presidents before him. He may, in fact, be more dangerous for America because he is given such hopeful allegiance by supporters eagerly willing to overlook his failings when comparing him to the extreme looniness of the hijacked Republican Right. Your last comment, Mike, so much more effectively expresses a legitimate concern. Your first comment may have been a satisfying public outlet for your frustrations, but it seems to encourage a deeper divisive wedge and does not win over any hearts and/or minds to your viewpoint.

Tony put the crack pipe down and take two steps back bro.

At what point did I cross the line from critical discourse to drug-induced incoherence? Or, in your opinion, was my entire tirade muddied and incomprehensible? Do people on crack likewise often question the actions and intentions of those in authority? Is political dissent a precursor to drug addiction, or vice versa? Does your admonition that I "take two steps back" imply that I need to relax and take a breather, or is it simply a request for more space because you feel somewhat threatened by my virtual proximity? I do readily admit, the subtle and elusive depth of your comment confounds and vexes me. Still, I will patiently continue in my endeavor to understand its well-spring of hidden value.
