  • The council will discuss whether to grant Scotts Valley resident Scott Gates a business license after his initial application was denied by the city. Gates, who had planned to open a medical marijuana dispensary, The Healing Clinic Cooperative, is appealing the city’s decision. Scotts Valley has a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
  • The council will discuss giving a preference to bids submitted by local businesses for services, materials, supplies and equipment. Scotts Valley Municipal Code allows the city to award a bid to local vendors as long as their bid is no higher than 1 percent over the lowest bid. The council will consider increasing the preference to 5 percent over the lowest bid.
  • The council will discuss holding a city-wide garage sale on Sept. 10, similar to one held each year in the city of Capitola. The garage sale would coincide with the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation’s Community Day and a city-sponsored e-waste recycling day.
  • The council will hold a public hearing on selling an approximately half-acre of vacant land on Erba Lane to the Scotts Valley Redevelopment Agency to be used for affordable housing. The land would cost the Redevelopment Agency $725,000, which would go into the city’s General Fund.
