Who's Funding Eshoo's 2012 Campaign?

Anna Eshoo's top donors revealed.

A look at Open Secrets’ profile for U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), who represents Scotts Valley, reveals a predominantly high-tech list of donors to her 2012 reelection campaign.

Eshoo’s top backer is Gilead Sciences, of Foster City, which has given $22,000 to her campaign committee from individuals and PACs combined, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which runs OpenSecrets.org.

Gilead’s PAC has given the same amount of money to Republicans as to Democrats so far this year: $10,000 each, including $5,000 to Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), $5,000 to Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and $5,000 to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

In the number two slot is Oracle, which gave Eshoo $15,500 total this cycle. Oracle’s campaign spending has slightly favored Democrats since 2008, with total PAC spending from 2012 totalling $98,000 so far to both parties.

Johnson & Johnson comes in third for Eshoo, with gifts totaling $15,000. Their PAC has raised $638,900 and so far favors Republicans this year.

In the fourth slot is Palo Alto’s Hewlett-Packard, which has donated $14,172 to Eshoo this cycle. HP has spent $626,200 so far on 2012 political campaigns, which a slight edge toward Democrats.

Google comes in fifth on Eshoo’s most-generous list, with donations so far at $13,500. Google is sitting on a lot of cash this year. They’ve raised $1.1 million so far and only spent $302,500. Slightly more has been given to Senate Democrats ($73,500) while in the House, Google has given more to Republicans ($82,000).

Eshoo has reported 323 contributions of $200 or more, totaling $403,608, so far in the current election cycle, according to Open Secrets.
