Easton-Bell Signs on as Title Partner for Scotts Valley Grand Prix

Race will bring pro cyclists to the area to compete.

Syzygy Sports Group, producer of the Scotts Valley Grand Prix, announced Friday that Easton-Bell Sports will be the title partner of the 2011 bicycle race.

The Scotts Valley Grand Prix, the only twilight criterium in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is in its second year, and organizers say they hope the partnership with Scotts Valley-based Easton-Bell will help to elevate the young race.

“We are excited for the opportunity to grow this event with Easton-Bell Sports at the helm,” said Mark Davis, CEO of Syzygy Sports Group, producer of the race. “Easton-Bell Sports is the preeminent corporate citizen in Scotts Valley, and this solidifies this race and its commitment to cycling and growing the SVGP into a family-oriented event.”

Last year’s race brought 300 riders and approximately 500 spectators to the area, and organizers estimate close to 500 riders and 2,000 spectators at this year’s May 15 event.

In addition to the race, which Davis says he hopes turns into a marquee event for the city, a festival run by the Chamber of Commerce is planned for the day and will include food and other vendors and a beer garden. A Kid’s Zone will have activities to keep the little ones busy, including rock climbing, a bounce house, helmet and bicycle safety lessons, music and face painting. A kid’s bicycle race is also planned for the day.
