Sauerkraut Demo with Kathryn Lukas of Farmhouse Culture

Learn to make healthy sauerkraut from the Goddess of Sauerkraut herself, Kathryn Lukas. Founder of Farmhouse Culture and a leader in the local food movement, Kathryn will lead an hour-long class about how to make sauerkraut this Saturday at the Mountain Feed booth (lower level) at the Aptos Farmers Market at Cabrillo College. You’ll learn how to prepare super nutritious kraut using the freshest ingredients from the farmers market as well as secrets about adding your own flavor twists to a basic recipe.

Gone are the days when sauerkraut was just a condiment. This wonderful stuff is more than just an afterthought to be piled on top of bratwurst and hotdogs—it’s a genuine superfood. Full of probiotics, vitamins, and vital cultures, sauerkraut is becoming a staple of the health-conscious diet. Numerous studies have linked kraut to boosted immune response and even heightened cancer resistance, and thankfully it's never been easier to make.

In addition, supplies needed for your sauerkraut project including assorted sizes of ceramic crocks, pickling salt, canning jars, closures, etc., are available at Mountain Feed. Their knowledgeable staff will be happy to answer your questions and help you choose exactly what you need for your project.
