Get Your Local Deal and Give Back to SV Schools

Scotts Valley Educational Foundation has partnered with a new company to bring deals from local merchants to the community to benefit the schools.

Move over Groupon, there is a new place for Scotts Valley residents to get local deals—and give back to Scotts Valley schools at the same time.

The brainchild of Cupertino mothers, Anita Yee and Sophia Chiang, Qlubbgive is venturing into the online daily deals market but with one significant difference. Every deal that they offer in each community goes back to that community’s schools.

Partnering with the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation, Qlubbgive launched its first round of Scotts Valley deals on May 24.

“We see this as a three-way win,” said Yee, Qlubbgive’s vice president of business development. “For the merchants, it’s a good way to get exposure and show their community support. The parents win by getting really good deals and the schools win by getting money.”

The idea behind Qlubbgive is simple—offer great local deals that will appeal to the community at that time. The merchants get a percentage and SVEF will get a percentage, typically between 20-33 percent of the cost of the deal.

A big difference between Qlubbgive and other daily deal companies is that Qlubbgive offers all of its deals at the same time for a period of up to a couple of weeks and the deals are centered around a theme. Then, the deals close and customers have a couple of months to redeem them. After the redeeming period, it starts all over again with a different theme and new deals.

The current local deals offered to support SVEF are centered around the “Grads and Dads” theme and run through June 5. Then new deals will be offered in the fall for the “Back to School” theme.

Currently, deals for Bruno’s BBQ, Scotts Valley Cycle Sport, Baskin Robbins, Mixbook, Ocean Animal Clinic and Scotts Valley Jewelers can be found on the site. These deals will close June 5 so don’t hesitate to get yours now.

“We wanted to have things that would be relevant to parents so they feel like they are contributing back,” Yee said. “We think this is a very complimentary way to raise funds for the schools and the Educational Foundation.”

The money raised from the current deals will go to the libraries and counseling programs at the four schools in Scotts Valley, Vine Hill and Brook Knoll elementary schools, Scotts Valley Middle School and Scotts Valley High School.

To view or purchase the current deals available, go to www.tinyurl.com/svefdeals. These deals are available to purchase until June 5 and a percentage of each purchase will go directly to the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation.
