Houserockers to Take the Stage for Music in the Park

Summer concert series continues Sunday in Skypark.

The season's second concert in the “Music at Skypark” series will take place Sunday with the sounds of the Houserockers, a band making its third consecutive appearance at the event.

The Houserockers, known for its rocking covers, was the winner of the KFOX’s 2010 Last Band Standing contest. Opening for the Houserockers will be The Coffis Brothers, featuring the folk rock sounds of Jamie and Kellen Coffis of Ben Lomond.

The free concert series runs the last Sunday of each month throughout the summer and will benefit the music programs at Scotts Valley’s four public schools.

“We’ve lined up some terrific bands for this concert series,” said Joe Miller, one of the event organizers. “We hope people come hungry and support our concessionaires. Our aim is to raise a lot of money for the schools while providing a true family event for the community.”

Though the event is free, several local service clubs will sell barbecue dishes. Skov winery and a few local restaurants will also be selling food, beer and wine.

All the money from the concessions will go toward keeping the music programs at Scotts Valley High School, Scotts Valley Middle School, Vine Hill Elementary and Brook Knoll Elementary alive.

According to the concert sponsors, the Scotts Valley Arts Commission and the Scotts Valley Kiwanis Foundation, the approximately $7,000 raised at last year’s concert series is credited with maintaining the music programs at the schools.

The concerts are all in Skypark from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at Skypark.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the summer:

July 31—The Coffis Brothers and House of Rockers (headliner)

Aug. 28—A La Lune and Extra Large (headliner)

Sept. 25—My Stupid Brother and Le Strange (headliner)
