Little League Roundup

Rays have a good week with three big wins.

Majors Division 

Rays 13, Phillies 2 Reilly Merlo hit for the cycle, and Logan Hudson had a 2-run homer and struck out 8 of the 9 batters he faced, leading the first place Rays to a 13-2 win. Kyle Raymond and Daniel Shamshoian each had three hits that included a double and each scored three times. John Sosa-Guaita had three hits and drove in three. The Phillies' lone runs came on a Reese Gyllenhammer home run to right-center that followed a double by Jack Kastner. The Phils also turned their second double play of the year on a bases loaded groundout that pitcher Ben Lemus threw to catcher Kastner, who went to third baseman Erik Olson, who threw to Brendan Magee at second.   

Rays 12, SLV Pirates 1 The Rays' Reilly Merlo had two doubles, Logan Hudson doubled and singled, Kyle Raymond singled twice, John Sosa-Guaita drew two walks and singled and Ramon Nunez doubled and drove in two runs. Ian Gallagher scored the only SLV Pirates run when he was driven in by one of Scotty McCool's two hits on the day.  

Rays 5, Reds 0 Logan Hudson and Kyle Raymond combined to throw a no-hitter, recording 13 strikeouts between them while allowing only one walk and one hit batsman. Raymond and Daniel Shamshoian each reached base twice and scored twice, Reilly Merlo was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and scored the Rays 5th run before leaving the game with an injury in the 3rd. Shamshoian preserved the no-hitter by robbing the Reds' Anthony Locatelli of an RBI extra base hit when snared a hot liner over 1st base and turned an unassisted double play. Tyler Renn was the bright spot for the Reds, pitching two innings while striking out four and allowing only one runner to reach on an error.

Giants 10, Phillies 3 Nathan Pisciotta doubled, walked, reached on an error and scored three times, Carson Spence singled, walked, scored and had three RBIs, Ryan Bariteau doubled, singled and had three RBIs, Cody Burnett singled and two RBIs and Lauren Shay singled twice.  For the Phillies, Jack Kastner had two RBIs and Garrett Hormel scored twice, while Reese Gyllenhammer pitched the last two innings and allowed no earned runs while striking out five.

Phillies 13, Blue Jays 7 The Phillies exploded for a nine-run fourth inning that saw Erik Olson go 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs in that inning. Jack Kastner went 4-for-4, scoring three and driving in three while fanning seven. Reese Gyllenhammer went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI, Garrett Hormel scored twice and struck out eight, Luke Balch scored twice, Ben Lemus drove in two and Zachary Del Mar had an RBI-single and scored. For the Blue Jays, Venny Petrini doubled off the left field fence, Andres Torres had a 2-run double and scored, and Tanner Steen scored twice. Zac Yates was the starting pitcher, striking out seven batters in three-plus innings of work.

Rays 2, SLV Diamondbacks 1 Logan Hudson has threw six full innings of one-hit ball, allowing one unearned run while striking out 13. Tanner Murray and T. Walker combined to hold the Rays to 4 hits while striking-out 12. The Rays scored in the third on singles by Kyle Raymond and Daniel Shamshoian and in the fifth when Cole Gibson walked and scored on another Raymond hit; he was 3-for-3 on the day. The D'backs scored in the fourth when Murray reached and Walker's bunt resulted in an error.  

SLV Giants 13, SV Giants 3 For the SV Giants, Nathan Pisciotta had two singles and a walk, Carson Spence had two singles and an RBI, Connor Wilson singled twice and Ryan Bariteau doubled and walked.  

Giants 15, San Juan/Aromas Giants 4 Carson Spence had three doubles among his four hits, scored four times and drove in four runs. Ryan Bariteau had three singles and a double and three RBIs, Tyler Wilson and Sampson Ruderman had two singles each while Connor Wilson and Nathan Pisciotta both doubled and walked.  

AAA Division  

Pirates 11, Yankees 9 The Pirates overcame a 9-1 deficit in the 6th to tie, and won the game in the 8th inning. The Pirates' Dillon Danner closed the game with nine strikeouts, Angelo Segretto had three hits, Danner a single and a triple and Stephen Arrum-Billow and Josh Hollingsworth both had two hits. For the Yankees, Anthony Petrini had a double and two singles, Cameron Deleeuw had a double and Matt Ellis added a triple.

Diamondbacks 15, Braves 3 The D'backs got 17 hits with Nick Endres, Shane Williams and Jarrett Bare all doubling and Sören Burns tripling. D-backs pitchers Shane and Sören Burns combined for a three-hitter and struck out 14. The Braves' Grace Hite, Ben Tapia and Veronica Reynolds hit safely with Reynolds driving in 2 runs. Braves pitchers Jackson Sutter, Grace Hite, Tyler Rehnberg and Alex Sterbenc combined for 5 strike outs.

Yankees 15, Orioles 8 For the Yanks, Arthur Soto and Gabriel Keith had three hits each, Anthony Petrini had two, and Ambrosio Torres and Cameron Deleeuw had one each. The Orioles were led by Bryce Clark and Cameron Roberson with two hits and Tyler Erwin and Jack Matty each had one. O's catcher Erwin threw out three attempts to steal third base.  

Tigers 4 Yankees 3 Tigers earned their first victory thanks to strong pitching by Masa Sato, who struck out eight.  Ryan Harris, David Foxx, Alex Reynolds and Masa Sato all had hits for the Tigers, while Josh Booth led the Yankees with two hits and pitcher Weber Stemm recorded seven strike outs.  

Orioles 3, A's 2 Bryce Clark and Cameron Roberson hit back-to-back doubles in the 7th inning, breaking a 2-2 tie. Teammates Robbie Hall and Robert Hipwell both singled, and Roberson had two doubles on the day. For the A's, Cody Ballantine and Tyler Costere both hit safely.
