Scotts Valley Little League Roundup

Phillies top D'backs 6-2, Braves win battle for first.

Majors Division

Rangers 2, Giants 1 (seven innings)

Highlights: Rangers’ Travis Lane struck out 16 batters in seven innings of work, Kyle Raymond was 3-for-4 and scored a run, Eli Bjorkland singled and scored the winning run in the seventh. Giants’ Owen Rockow homered, Nathan Pisciotta and Tyler Stone singled, Mitchell Gaspar gave up only three hits and four walks in seven innings of pitching.

Rangers 14, Giants 3

Highlights: Giants’ Seth O’Brien singled twice, Owen Rockow doubled, Carson Spence hit a two-run homer and singled.

Rays 4, Cardinals 2

Highlights: Rays’ Reilly Merlo doubled and was hit-by-pitch and scored twice, Eric Beraut singled twice and drove in two runs, Jasper Stemm and Tyler Renn singled. Cardinals’ Logan Hudson tripled and singled, Georgia Parsons and Gregory Neiger both walked and scored.

Cardinals 8, Rangers 1

Highlights: Cardinals’ Gregory Neiger singled and had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings before Jaya Parisi singled in a 10-pitch at bat, Logan Hudson was 2-for-2, Andrew Christensen tripled, Reese Gyllenhammer and George Parsons each singled and scored twice, Mathew Boe singled and scored.  Rangers’ Travis Lane and Kyle Raymond followed Parisi’s singles with singles of their own, Robert Reimer walked in the fifth to break up a perfect game, Lane had five assists and one putout at shortstop.

Cardinals 5, Rangers 2 (Continuation of March 22 rainout)

Highlights: Cardinals’ Andrew Christensen hit a three-run homer, scoring George Parsons and Reese Gyllenhammer, Gregory Neiger struck out all four batters he faced, Cameron McGrew got the save.

AAA Division

Phillies 6, D’backs 2

Highlights: Phillies’ Zane Fuller had two hits four RBIs, Ambrose Johnson had a hit and RBI on a fake bunt, shortstop Shane Ford hit safely and turned an unassisted double play, Kyle Smith, Angelo Segretto and Parker Smith all had hits.

Braves 5, Astros 4

First place was at stake in the AAA Division between its top two teams.

Highlights: Braves’ scored three in the last inning with Brody Affolter’s bunt single and singles by Garrett Hormel and Erik Olson and wild pitches, Olson also doubled and was the winning pitcher, Asher Reynolds singled and scored, Cameron Kufchak had an RBI. Astros’ Garrett Fisher fanned seven in four innings and had two hits, Bryce Gundersen had two hits, Trevor Wiechmann had two walks and scored twice.

Marlins 12, Orioles 11

Highlights: Marlins’ Trevor Stocker and Chris Shaw both had three hits with Shaw driving in four runs and Stocker two, David Nicholson singled and scored three times, Kieran Ruf doubled and walked twice, Jack Ponza singled and walked twice, Paul Hanson singled and drove in two, Zach Snider singled, walked and scored.  Orioles’ John Sosa had two hits, including a triple, and Masa Sato, Tyler Erwin, Bryce Clark and Ben Lemus all had two hits.

Braves 17, Astros 7

Highlights: Braves’ Brendan Hite doubled and singled twice, knocking in two and scoring two, Garrett Hormel scored three times and had an RBI, Tyler Harris had two runs and an RBI, Cameron Kufchak scored twice, Lauren Shay and Asher Reynolds each had two hits and two RBIs. Cubs’ Vincent Beraut had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, Ian Thomas had an RBI-double, Henry Danner doubled and scored, Luke Balch scored and had an RBI, Conor McEntee and Tyler Wilson each had RBIs.
