Wrapped Up In Giving

High school students and Rotarians wrapped close to 1,000 barrels for the annual Second Harvest holiday food drive.

There is a technique to plastering cardboard drums with shiny paper covers: squaring the wraps with the edge of the barrels before taping anything down is key to a clean presentation.

But speed also is important. If you're too slow, the barrel wrappers to your left or right might just snag your blank canvases, leaving your crew to rush across the warehouse for more barrels.

These were skills about 50 high school students from high schools across the county learned Saturday when they teamed with about a dozen Rotary Club members to wrap the holiday food drive barrels used by .

The students—all members of Rotary's high school program, Interact—made quick work of the project. Every barrel that could be found was wrapped in about an hour.

The barrels will appear in schools soon, then stores and businesses.
