It seems a giant can of worms has been opened. You're welcome to toss tenure but please, do not getRead More rid of basic due process. I've worked for too many folks who think due process belongs somewhere else and NOT in the teaching profession.

It's about time! Being parents in Los Altos, a district considered one of the top in CA, we haveRead More seen utterly underperforming teachers cruising along just because they think they are "safe". Think about our children, please!

I don't agree with Los Altos resident. Most of the under performing students don't do their work andRead More disrupt the class for the other kids that do their work. Most parents don't want to be bothered making sure their kids do their home work and study for their tests. I have seen this time after time. This is just another attack on teachers and I wonder if this attack is only against elementary, middle school and high school teachers. Is the suit attacking college teachers? It should because there are just as many "bad' teachers in college as anywhere else.

We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! Yeah, I pulled them out to homeschool! The emphasis on making judgment and forming arguments at suchRead More a young age is not developmentally appropriate. Kids should not be doing this until the dialectic stage of learning, usually around 7th-9th grades. And eliminating classical literature from the curriculum to replace it with factual data is a very anemic approach to learning. There is so much that children absorb through the art of story (e.g., vocabulary, grammar, character values, just to name a few) that will be absent from this type of education. I loved our public school community but b/c of CCSS, I am so glad we are homeschooling!

Can't say I'm surprised test results have dropped at the middle school. My daughter's star test forRead More math came back with NO grade even though she sat the test and put her name on the paper ( which is part of a booklet with her name on it ). I've heard of others that had their results delievered in torn envelopes and some that havent even had results yet. Something fishy is going on if you ask me and I now give no weight to the silly test.

I took MANY classes with Sandy whenever they were offered. I always hated history so dreaded thatRead More mandated component of my education. Someone told me Sandy was a blast and to try one of his little weekend classes. I started with "The History of the Forest of Nisene Marks" and was hooked! He is a fantastic teacher that makes everything he is talking about come to life and his enthusiasm is infectious! Any class that includes walking around in a forest all day and ends with a beer is alright by me! Thanks for all the fabulous memories and learning experiences Sandy!
