No, you don't have to be "wealthy" to live on the central coast. I work a fairly average…Read More income job and am able to afford it. This is not a cheap area to live in though. If you can't afford it, move to some place more affordable like the central valley or out of state. It shouldn't be up to everyone else to subsidize your coastal lifestyle - that is a luxury, like driving a brand new car or owning a large TV (some of us give up TV's and cars just to live here rather than beg for help). Now if you can't even afford reasonable accommodation in a more affordable city, then perhaps help is needed.
