John C. Cannon, Neighbor

I'm a freelance journalist who's written for magazines, online news outlets and public radio. Science is my primary beat, but I have a strong belief in the importance of community journalism. In the past, I've been a general assignment reporter covering everything from the courts to sports to agriculture to business.

Before I began writing, I worked as a field and laboratory researcher in biology and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. I'm a 'boomerang' resident of the Monterey Bay area, having completed the UC Santa Cruz Science Communication program in 2008, and then returned a few months ago to live in Pacific Grove. 

In my free time, I'm an avid kayaker and mountain biker, and I train for and run in road and trail races ranging in distance from 5 kilometers to the marathon. My contact information and links to my work are on my Web site, www.johnccannon.com.
