Reber: I attended Vine Hill Elementary School and Scotts Valley Jr. High. We didn't have a high school so I took the bus every day to Soquel High School. I've lived on my own since I was 16, so I grew up a bit early. In spite of working full time to support myself, I got good grades and graduated a year early from Soquel High. I also attended classes at Cabrillo College during high school and afterward.

Patch: How long have you lived in Scotts Valley?

Reber: I have lived here since the third grade.

Patch: What is something you are known for?

Reber: I am known in Scotts Valley for my involvement in our community. When I became a father, I found that giving back to the community had a whole new meaning because this was the community my children would grow up in. Since then I have been past president of the Scotts Valley Rotary Club, Scotts Valley "Man of the Year" and I currently serve as vice president for the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Patch: What is your latest project?

Reber: I am honored to serve as vice president for the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce. It ties in perfectly with my work and I get to serve my community at the same time. Like all things Scotts Valley, our Chamber really stands out when compared to others. It is more than just a group of local businesses, it is truly a family. It feels great to be part of a group that brings such real, tangible help to our business community.

Patch: Book you last read?

Reber: Stephen Covey's 7 Habits, great book!

Patch: Newspaper or magazine you read regularly?

Reber: I read the Sentinel every day as well as all of the county's weekly and monthly publications.

Patch: Movie you could watch again and again?

Reber: My all-time favorite is The Blues Brothers. No matter how many times I see it, it makes me laugh.

Patch: Favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Reber: I love to play my guitar. Whenever I've had a stressful day, something about playing guitar always brings me back to my happy place.

Patch: What is one of your most gratifying accomplishments?

Reber: My most gratifying accomplishment is my family. Michelle, my wife, is my best friend and I love her with all my heart. We have been together for over twenty years and married for thirteen. Our two beautiful daughters Maya and Arwen are the center of my universe.

Patch: What is your greatest indulgence?

Reber: Call me a nerd, but I love science fiction. Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits...you name it, I have it my DVD collection. I learned more about right and wrong from watching Star Trek than I did from the people in my life. I now enjoy watching and sharing those same shows with my oldest daughter.

Patch: One of your most memorable vacations?

Reber: Michelle and I traveled to Ireland, Britain, France, Germany and Italy for our honeymoon. We travel so well together and it was quite an adventure.

Patch: What is a goal you are chasing after?

Reber: As a goal-oriented person, I have achieved many of the goals I have set for myself. At this point in my life my goals are simple. I just want to be the best father and husband I can be and learn to enjoy each day to its fullest. I want to savor each and every beautiful moment of it.

Patch: What do you like most about life in Scotts Valley?

Reber: Scotts Valley is a special place to live and I am proud to call it home. We live in an amazing town but it’s more than that, it’s not just a community, it feels more like a family. There is no other place quite like it. It’s a place that truly embodies that small town feeling of people caring about people.
