Where/When: , 1554 Bean Creek Rd., Scotts Valley. Saturday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: Get out for a walk in the gardens of Bay Laurel Nursery. The nursery will host a meeting of the Monterey Bay Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society and offer a garden tour of its landscaped facility.

Why Go: This is a fun, energetic and somewhat different music sound, and it's not often that the group plays so close to home. These musicians are considered kings of outlaw music for the Bay Area, so head on out. They fuse folk, punk rock and disco and have performed at home and around the world.

Pricing: $1o in advance; $12 at the door.

Where/When: , 5000 N. Rodeo Gulch Rd., Soquel. Saturday, noon-5 p.m.

Why Go: This is definitely a different twist on wine tasting. Donuts and wine is not your typical combination. And there is more happening this Saturday as well at Poetic Corners. Show up for a live filming of a reality TV pilot series.

Pricing: $5 tasting fee, includes donut and wine pairing.

When/Where: Poetic Cellars, 5000 N. Rodeo Gulch, Soquel, and three Los Gatos wineries, , 24060 Summit Rd., MJA Cellars, 24900 Highland Way, and  Loma Prieta Winery, 26985 Loma Prieta Way. Saturday, noon-5 p.m.

Why Go: This is an interesting approach to wine pairing and appropriate to the holiday penchant for jelly beans. Jelly beans and wine, who would have thought? But it does sound delightful. Here are the pairings: Burrell School-honey & chardonnay and wild blackberry & zinfandel; MJA Cellars-strawberry jam & pinot noir and chocolate pudding & cabernet; Loma Prieta-crushed pineapple & viognier, raspberry & pinot noir and mixed berry smoothie & petite sirah; Poetic Cellars-toasted marshmallow & chardonnay, pomegranate & mourvedre and plum & syrah.

Pricing: $5 tasting fee; refund with purchase.

Where/When: Aptos Library, 7695 Soquel Dr., Aptos. Thursday, 1-3 p.m.

Why Go: One of the hardest things about writing is not having anyone with whom to share your work or get feedback. This writing group can help you with that. Share your work-in-progress in this facilitated writing group led by local author, Jean Wolff. All are welcome, whether you have just started or are well along on your project.
