Scotts Valley Market is Business of the Year

The market and Clements family are being recognized by the Chamber for their long-standing sense of serving the community.

The roots of go back 65 years and three generations. It is a place where family and community is everything, which then is no surprise that it is this year’s Business of the Year.

The market will be honored by the at its Community Awards Gala on Saturday night for its support of the Scotts Valley Community and its residents.

What began in 1946 when Lester Clements open his first market in Freedom, Calif. has evolved into a long-standing family tradition of serving the community that has spanned decades and many cities. And now, the family of Clements is focusing its efforts on serving the people of Scotts Valley.

The notion that people are important and continues to inspire the generations that have come after. Today, Ron Clements Jr. is Scotts Valley Market’s general manager, and he pledges to carry on those values so deeply engrained in him, so it is no wonder the market and the Clements family is being recognized for all the good they do.

“They are committed to the community, and assisting with raising funds for our schools, Valley Churches United Missions, the Scotts Valley Police Department’s DARE program and our many community-based service organizations,” the Chamber said in a press release.

The market has also donated Child Identification Kits to the SVPD and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, and recently stepped forward to assist with a major fundraiser dinner for a local sheriff’s deputy suffering from a terminal illness.

“They are one of those businesses who work quietly behind the scenes assisting whenever there is a need, both in terms of food and raising money. Where there is a community event, you will most likely find a Scotts Valley Market truck making their delivery,” the Chamber said.

The Scotts Valley Chamber’s Community Service Awards Gala takes place Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased through the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce by calling 831-438-1010 or online at the Chamber website, www.scottsvalleychamber.com
