Get Out: Your Guide to What's Happening This Weekend

Valentine's wine tasting and a SVHS fashion show top our list of things to do this weekend.

SVHS Fashion Show

Where/When: Scotts Valley High School, 555 Glenwood Dr. Friday, 7 p.m. and Saturday, 2 p.m.

What: Scotts Valley High School fashion students will be hosting their annual fashion show. The students will be presenting their original designs and fashions worn by student models. All proceeds will benefit Invisible Children, an organization seeking to end the conflict in Uganda and stop the abduction of children for use as child soldiers.

Price: Admission is $3 for children and students and $5 for adults.

Skov Winery Valen-Tasting

Where/When: Skov Winery, 2364 Bean Creek Rd., Scotts Valley. Saturday, noon-4:30 p.m.

What: Valentine's Day is right around the corner and Skov Winery will be celebrating this romantic day of love a few days early. Bring your loved ones out to taste Skov’s sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, merlot and zinfandel port. The Generous Danes Kitchen will be offering an assortment of handmade caramels, chocolates, truffles and other sweets for you to sample and purchase. There will also be beautiful, one-of-a-kind, hand-designed jewelry from BC Piece’s available for purchase, along with an assortment of fun wine gift items such as hats, aprons, wine bags, napkins, t-shirts, cards and wine soaps.

Price: Admission is free. Tasting fee is $15 per person for the general public, and $10 for Skov Wine Club members. Glasses of wine will also be available for purchase.

Scotts Valley Idol Finals

Where/When: , 4402 Scotts Valley Dr. Saturday, 9 p.m.

Why Go: Scotts Valley’s best karaoke stars have battled it out over the past four weeks and now it is down to the final few. Who will be crowned Scotts Valley Idol? Head out to Malone’s on Saturday night to cheer on the competitors and congratulate the new idol. The winner of it all will take home $300, and cash prizes will be awarded for second and third place too.

Price: There is no cover charge to watch. Food and drinks will be available for sale.

Roaring Camp Rain Forest Weekends

Where/When: Roaring Camp, 5401 Graham Hill Rd., Felton. Saturday and Sunday, various times.

Why Go: Take an exciting ride on an antique steam train through California’s forest of coastal redwoods. As you sit back and enjoy the scenery, fascinating information about forest ecology and seasonal changes will be given.

Cost: Tickets are $24 for adults and $17 for children, and can be purchased at www.roaringcamp.com

Oak Tree Villa Speaker Event

Where/When: Oak Tree Villa, 100 Lockwood Lane, Scotts Valley. Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

What: The Scotts Valley Chamber is hosting a three-series speaker event. The first talk, “The World Ocean—Challenges in the 21st Century,” takes place Saturday. The speaker, Jim Mathewson, is a resident at Oak Tree Villa.  Among his many accomplishments, Jim taught chemistry and oceanography at San Diego State University for 30 years, and was the founder of the SDSU Coastal and Marine Institute
