Malone's to Host Fundraiser For Bryan Stow

Owner Patti Malone and community members come together to support the Stow family.

Malone’s Grille will host a fundraiser on Wednesday to raise money for the family of Bryan Stow, a friend and regular customer of the restaurant, who was severely beaten at Dodger Stadium following a Dodgers-Giants game in March.

“Everyone was just devastated when we heard what happened,” owner Patti Malone said. “Our community really wanted to do something, and we thought this would be the right place to do it.”

The restaurant will donate 30 percent of its sales from 5-8 p.m. to the family of Stow to help with the costs of his medical bills. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.

Malone said that once the decision was made to hold the fundraiser at her Scotts Valley restaurant, she began getting numerous calls from people wanting to donate items.

“There has been just an outpouring from everywhere,” Malone said. “This is just a small community, but we wanted to do our part. We want Bryan’s family to know we are here for him and for them.”

Malone said among the auction and raffle items will be signed San Francisco 49ers memorabilia and donated items and services from local businesses.

“It’s amazing, so many people are just coming forward to help,” she said. “I think a lot of people just really wanted to do something.”

And in fact, people from all over are coming together to help Stow, who remains in a medically-induced coma at County USC Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Stow, an emergency medical technician in Santa Clara County, has garnered swift and generous support from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Nearly $300,000 has been raised, with $150,000 of it being offered as a reward for information leading to the arrests of the two men suspected of taunting and then beating Stow in the stadium parking lot after the game.

“We’re just praying for him,” Malone said. “And hoping that he recovers and wakes up soon.”

A website, support4bryanstow.com/, has been set up for people wishing to donate to the fund set up to help the family pay the hospital bills.

Malone’s is at 4402 Scotts Valley Dr. For more information, visit malonesgrille.com/, or call 831-438-2244.
